Amazon Business checkout: delivery-address traps in automated purchasing
Short answer: on Amazon Business accounts, checkout can jump straight to the review screen with an organisation-level default address already applied. An automated buyer must never trust the address it tried to select; it has to read the “Delivering to” line on the final review screen and stop if the recipient does not exactly match the package reference.
How Business checkout differs from retail
- The address step can be skipped. Checkout defaults set by an administrator may take you directly to review.
- Changing the address opens a full page, not a pop-up. The list can hold hundreds of saved addresses, with different controls from the retail widget.
- Re-selecting a saved address may not stick. The organisation default can reappear on the review screen.
- An interstitial may appear before checkout, asking you to confirm you are buying for a business.
What an automated buyer should do
- Detect the interstitial by URL pattern and continue only through its explicit confirmation button.
- If the address form does not appear within a short wait, open the delivery chooser from the review screen.
- Prefer adding a fresh delivery address that carries the package reference, instead of re-selecting an existing one.
- Before paying, verify on the review screen that the recipient line matches the reference exactly — otherwise stop with a clear error.
- Leave purchase-order fields and account-level defaults untouched.
Why this matters
A package delivered with the wrong recipient line still arrives at the warehouse — but without the reference that tells the warehouse which order it belongs to. Nothing fails loudly; the box just sits unidentified. The only reliable defence is a final check that runs on every order, on every account type.
Cloverlight Order Bot runs the same checkout logic on retail and Business accounts and refuses to place an order whose review-screen address does not match.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't a re-selected address always apply on Amazon Business?
Organisation-level checkout defaults can take precedence on the review screen, so the address that was selected earlier may be replaced by the default.
What is the safest check before placing the order?
Read the delivery line on the final review screen and compare the recipient name with the expected package reference; stop if they differ.
